About the Role
JOB SUMMARY:
As a Family Liaison for the Road to Success program, your role is to empower families by equipping them
with information, resources, and the skills needed to advocate for their children. You will support parents in identifying and leveraging their strengths, encourage them to voice concerns and find solutions, and facilitate their engagement with community resources. Your goal is to help families navigate the complexities of the mental health and educational systems, fostering a sense of "voice and choice." Additionally, you will maintain a strengths-based focus in child and family team meetings and facilitate positive connections between parents and community professionals. Your commitment to diversity, strong communication skills, and willingness to adapt and innovate will be essential in this role.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist caregivers in identifying and utilizing individual and family strengths.
• Empower caregivers to voice concerns and find meaningful strength-based solutions to address the needs of their transition aged youth or young adult.
• Participate in participant and family team meetings as appropriate and desired by family.
• Provide information on appropriate, available community resources and informal supports.
• Help families/caregivers locate and utilize resources for navigating the system of care.
• Encourage caregivers to develop and utilize a healthy sense of “voice and choice” within the system of care.
• Assist in keeping youth and young adult participants and family teams focused on the strengths of the
participant, family, and community as needed.
• Foster positive connections between caregivers and community professionals.
• Attend workshops/training that will enhance knowledge and skills needed in the role of a Family Liaison.
• Other duties or assigned or delegated.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Minimum four years of experience parenting a child with mental health issues or related experiences.
• Experience with school and children’s mental health systems and resources.
• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• Valid Minnesota drivers’ license and auto insurance.
• Willingness to work irregular evening hours.
• Willing to complete the State of MN Department of Human Services – approved Certified Family Peer Specialist Training and certification exam.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of Children’s Mental Health issues and resources.
• Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and team leader.
• Understanding diversity and family culture.
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work independently and responsibly.
• Valid drivers’ license and car insurance

• Ability to motivate and empower caregivers to advocate for their youth or young adult.
• Sensitivity and interest in working with diverse populations.
• Energy, assertiveness, initiative, creativity, and willingness to try new approaches and techniques.
SALARY: $20.41 to $23.09 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
TRAVEL: Extensive travel within a five-county area and occasional travel within the state
